New traffic restrictions for school road trial

Roads around two schools are set to see a 20mph speed limit and a one-way system introduced as part of a safety trial.

The measures will affect roads near The Bourne Academy and Kingsleigh Primary School in Bournemouth, from Thursday 3 September.

Other changes will include restrictions on when disabled bays can be used.

BCP Council said the aim of the six-month scheme is "to improve safety for children travelling to school and to alleviate congestion issues".

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the changes will remain in place until 3 March 2027, although the trial could be extended for up to 18 months.

As part of the scheme, Bennion Road and Ibbett Road will become one-way streets for northbound to southbound traffic, with an exemption for cyclists.

A 20mph zone will be introduced on Hadow Road, Bennion Road, Ibbett Road and Pavan Gardens.

A no-entry restriction, except for cycles, will be introduced from Kingswell Road onto Ibbett Road, while traffic travelling from Pavan Gardens onto Ibbett Road will be restricted to left turns only.

Timed no waiting and no loading restrictions will be introduced on the north side of Hadow Road, Monday and Friday between 08:00 and 17:00 BST. Loading restrictions will also be introduced at the junction of Ibbett Road and Kingswell Road.

Disabled parking bays on the north side of Hadow Road and on Pavan Gardens will also be restricted to Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00.

No waiting restrictions will be introduced on Kingswell Road near its junction with Kinson Road and at several nearby junctions, including Adamsfield Gardens, Kingswell Grove, Kingswell Gardens and Glenville Road. Restrictions will also be extended at the Kinson Road and Caroline Road junction.

From 3 September, residents will be able to support, object to or comment on the trial through BCP Council website or by contacting them.
