Watch: Piloting giant ships into port is 'fun job'
Have you ever wondered how the world's largest ships are parked - or berthed - in port and then guided safely back out to sea?
The Harwich Haven Authority, which has handled nearly 4,000 vessels in the past year, employs specialists called pilots at Felixstowe and Ipswich ports in Suffolk, and Harwich in Essex.
Senior pilot Jane Stone was a ship's captain before joining the authority, where she helps to guide every ship more than 50m (164ft) in length.
She said: "The most fun part of this job is manoeuvring in the harbours, taking a ship into port. They're complicated bits of equipment."
Video revealed the moment she had to jump from a ship to a launch boat while both vessels were moving.
