24-hour petrol station opening plan refused again

Plans to keep a petrol station open 24 hours a day have been refused for the second time in just a few months.

The Texaco filling station on Leeds Road in Shipley currently opens between 07:00 and 23:00 every day, but an application was submitted earlier this year to extend those hours.

That application was refused by Bradford Council, with councillors saying the proposed opening hours would be "anti-social".

A second application, this time including a noise impact assessment and management plan, was submitted in the summer, but has been refused again due to concerns about the impact on neighbours.

According to the the Local Democracy Reporting Service, there were numerous houses to the rear of the filling station, which was on one of the main routes into and out of Shipley.

A planning officer's report said it would be "highly likely" residents next to the site would be disturbed by noise.

It noted that vehicle movements, car doors, vehicle engines, plant noise and other external equipment would be disruptive.

"Councils often limit late-night hours to protect residents from noise and disturbance," the report added.
