Part of A30 to remain closed after lorry fire
Part of a main road has been closed due to "large amounts of smoke" from a lorry fire, a council has said.
Cornwall Council confirmed both carriageways of the A30 had been closed near Pennygillam, Launceston. The eastbound carriageway has since reopened, police said.
Students were sent home from Launceston College, and staff said the smoke travelled to "approximately two thirds of the school site".
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said work might continue on the westbound carriageway for up to 12 hours.
On Thursday afternoon, Launceston College posted on Facebook: "We would like to reassure everyone that all students and staff are safe and secure.
"We are working closely with the fire service and have moved our school community inside to buildings furthest away from the road.
"As the smoke has spread, we now need to avoid, where possible, approximately two thirds of the school site.
"We are therefore asking parents and carers to collect their child or children as soon as they are able to."
The police and fire service remain at the scene, with drivers asked to avoid the area and follow emergency services' advice.
Speaking on BBC Radio Cornwall, Shaun Dyer said: "They've stopped all the traffic while they are trying to put the fire out.
"I could see the truck and it was well ablaze... as I went over the A30 there was no traffic moving in either direction."
