Two people have been arrested after a woman was seriously injured in an alleged hit-and-run.

Wiltshire Police said the collision happened at about 02:30 BST on Rodbourne Road in Swindon, Wiltshire, near the Designer Outlet Village.

The woman, a pedestrian, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is now said to be in a stable condition.

Officers said the driver of the car involved failed to stop at the scene. Two people, a 35-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, have since been arrested.

In an update shared shortly before 13:40 BST, police said the man had been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The woman has been detained on suspicion of "linked offences".

Roads Policing Inspector Neil Duffin said: "We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Swindon Outlet Village, Rodbourne Road or Crombey Street between 2am and 2.30am, to contact us as a matter of urgency.

"You may have information which could help with this investigation into a serious collision which left a woman seriously injured."

A cordon remains in place while investigative work takes place, with drivers warned to expect delays in the area.

Officers are also asking for anyone with relevant dashcam footage or CCTV to come forward.
