A replica grenade was found near Chesterfield Canal and Raglan Road

Police have confirmed a suspicious item which led to road closures around a canal in Retford was a replica grenade.

Nottinghamshire Police set up a cordon and a number of roads were closed around Chesterfield Canal and Raglan Road on Monday.

The force gave an update on Tuesday to say the item was a training device, which was "safely removed" before roads reopened.

The force had said there was "no threat to the public", but the area was cordoned off as a precaution. Officers thanked the public for their "patience and cooperation".
