Candidates standing for Glenfaba and Peel

Eight candidates will be standing in the general election for the Glenfaba and Peel constituency.

The western constituency takes in the local authority areas of Peel, German and Patrick, which include communities in Peel, St John's, Foxdale, Glen Maye and Dalby.

The combined area was formed in 2016 as part of the redrawing of constituency boundaries, bringing together the largely rural parishes within the Glenfaba area with the heavily populated town of Peel.

Historically a central hub of the island's fishing industry, the town's port remains active in the shellfish sector, as well as being home to the representative body the Manx Fish Producers' Organisation.

That maritime heritage is celebrated in the House of Manannan, which sits on the quayside and also charts the island's Viking and Celtic history.

The town is also home to Peel Castle, a medieval fortress situated on St Patrick's Isle, which features the ruins of St German's Cathedral within its walls.

At the heart of the older part of the town is the island's Church of England cathedral – Cathedral Isle of Man – which recently underwent a £3m upgrade.

Further along the western coast, in Patrick, is the site of the largest World War One internment camp, with the island's part in detaining internees between 1914 and 1919 explored at the Knockaloe heritage centre.

The area also has a strong mining heritage, with the Foxdale zinc and lead mines operating throughout the 19th Century. Evidence of the activity can be seen in the remains of Cross Vein Mine, an area known locally as Snuff the Wind.

The constituency had a population of 8,240, according to Electoral Commission figures from 2023. As of October 2025, 6,340 people were registered to vote.

Both MHKs elected in 2021 – Tim Crookall and Kate Lord-Brennan – have decided not to stand again.

The BBC has invited all candidates to submit a minute manifesto in which they explain why they would be a good MHK and their three main priorities.

Why are you the right candidate and what are your top three priorities?

I am the right candidate because I am Peel born and bred, not an imported "local" trying to promise you the earth. I will always put the people of Glenfaba & Peel first. I will listen, challenge government where necessary, scrutinise how taxpayers' money is spent and focus on practical solutions rather than political rhetoric. We need bold change and I'm not afraid to stand up and be counted to make this happen.

My three priorities are: first, affordable housing and accessible, effective public services; second, better value for taxpayers alongside investment in our roads and infrastructure; and third, a stronger local economy and more resilient communities, supporting local businesses, jobs, families and our own young people. I want to be a vocal, visible, accountable and determined voice for Glenfaba & Peel.

Why are you the right candidate and what are your top three priorities?

My three priorities are simple.

Getting the basics right. We need affordable housing, accessible healthcare, strong public services and responsible government spending.

Building a sustainable economy. Growth is essential, but it must be the right growth. The unsustainable population increases must be reassessed. Whilst also looking to invest in our own people through education, skills and training.

Supporting families through the cost-of-living pressures they face, while backing local businesses, farming, fishing and the communities that make the Isle of Man what it is.

Why am I the right candidate?

Because I understand the challenges many people face, not just from reading about it, but from real life. I have run businesses, managed businesses, raised a family and experienced the pressures most households face.

I bring real-world experience, common sense and a commitment to listen.
