The giant beasts returning to Britain after 6,000 years
The Travel Show visits a landscape that has not seen wild bison for 6,000 years. The European bison, the continent's largest land mammal, can stand up to two metres tall and weigh as much as a car. Once roaming across vast parts of Europe, from Scotland to Siberia, the species was driven to extinction in the wild in the early 20th Century. In 2022, the Wildwood Trust in Kent launched an ambitious project to bring bison back to Britain. Reporting for the Travel Show, Roma Wells witnesses the release of these giants as they begin a new chapter in the wild.
