Hidden 'cub cam' shows first days of newborn lions

The first days of life for five newborn lion cubs have been captured on a zoo's hidden "cub cam".

The Northern African cubs were born at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire last month, bringing the pride's total to 11 - "the largest it has ever been", the zoo said.

Steve Merrick-White, team leader of predators, said lioness Waka had been "so attentive, making sure her cubs are fed, clean and comfortable, and it's been lovely to watch her with them".

The number of Northern African lions in the wild are declining and the zoo's conservation breeding programme hopes to safeguard their future.
