A primary school has been praised for strong academic standards and high attendance, but inspectors say improvements are needed in pupils' personal development.

New Invention Learning Academy in Willenhall was found to meet safeguarding requirements and achieve a "strong standard" in most areas.

Inspectors said pupils were performing above national averages in reading, writing and maths and their behaviour was "polite, respectful and kind", with attendance above average.

However, inspectors found the school's personal development programme "needs attention".

They said that extra-curricular activities were weighted towards sport, with limited creative opportunities.

Leaders were advised to create a more structured approach to personal development and make better use of participation data to broaden activities on offer.

Despite this, inspectors said pupils feel safe and enjoy school life, describing it as a "caring and welcoming community".

They added that pupils left school "well prepared" for secondary education.

Teaching and the curriculum were also praised.

The school, which has 365 pupils, is part of the Primary Learning Trust.
