Hospital unveils refurbished renal dialysis unit

A new-look renal dialysis unit has opened at a West Yorkshire hospital following months of refurbishment.

New facilities have been installed at the unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary, with "essential infrastructure upgrades" also carried out.

It offers treatment for severe kidney injuries, sudden kidney failure and cares for people with chronic or acute illnesses.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which oversees the hospital, said the refurbishment marks a "significant milestone in the kidney care service".

A new evening dialysis session will be offered to inpatients at the hospital along with inpatients transferred from Airedale Hospital, which does not have its own renal service.

The refurbished unit has a new procedure room and three single-bed facilities, as well as shared bed bays with three dialysis stations and clinical rooms.

The NHS trust said the unit will provide patients with a "much-improved environment" to receive treatment, with staff involved in the design.

Mansoor Ali, a consultant nephrologist, said: "This makeover has transformed the unit into a new, bright, modern designed space which is much needed for this busy service.

"It's made an airy, light and calming environment which aims to make dialysis patients feel more comfortable and provide them with the best care possible."
