Tano Cinao, owner of Benedictos in Worcester, said he was stood with his hands on his head as he watched a fire engine crash into his business

A crash that led to a fire engine careering through the window of a restaurant left the business owner thinking it was "the end".

"I looked at it and I saw the fire engine come through the restaurant, inside the restaurant and it was just shocking," said Tano Cinao, owner of Benedictos in Worcester city centre.

"I put my hands on my head as though it was the end."

A West Mercia Police spokesperson confirmed at the time a man in his 30s had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

Cinao said he was relieved his customers had not suffered life-threatening injuries

Cinao said: "We had people upstairs, people downstairs in the cellar, so if it was going through the restaurant it would have been a tragedy."

The Italian restaurant owner said despite the crash, he was "very proud" of his staff and thanked them for being "fantastic".

"I have to say, I have no one I can blame because it just is an accident and something no one went looking for," Cinao continued.

"I also have to say, I'm glad no one has a life threatening injury. We've kept in touch with the people [injured] because we know them very well."
