Household water bills set to increase in 2027

The average household water bill is set to go up by more than £30 next year.

Jersey Water said households could expect to pay an extra 8p per day from 1 January - equivalent to an additional £2.55 per month.

It comes as the company plans to invest £26m upgrading its desalination plant, in a bid to increase output by up to 50% and strengthen the island's ability to "maintain water supplies during prolonged periods of low rainfall and drought".

Helier Smith, chief executive officer for Jersey Water, said the company had "worked hard to keep customers' bills as low as possible" but said the increase was necessary for "a resilient and secure water supply for the future".

"We have a responsibility to plan ahead," he said.

"The upgrade of our desalination plant will be the biggest investment in the island's water infrastructure for a generation and will play a vital role in helping us maintain supplies during drought conditions."

Smith added: "When we published our 2030 strategy last year, we were clear that increases in water charges would be necessary to support the investment required to secure Jersey's long-term water supply."

The changes are expected to bring the average annual household water bill to £473.77.
