M5 reopens following police incident
Getty ImagesA section of the M5 has reopened after police responded to a safety incident.
The motorway was shut near Bristol between Junction 18 (Avonmouth) and 19 (Portishead) southbound and Junction 18 to 21 (Weston-super-Mare) northbound.
Avon and Somerset Police closed the route at about 20:00 BST on Sunday. This section of road reopened just after midnight, according to National Highways.
But traffic monitoring site INRIX reports the motorway is closed southbound due to overrunning roadworks from J24 A38 (Bridgwater South) to J25 A358 (Taunton).
