Playground closed while Asian hornet nest removed
BBCA playground has been closed while an Asian hornet nest is removed.
Infrastructure and Environment said the play area in Millennium Park, St Helier, would stay shut throughout Monday and possibly Tuesday while the nest was extracted.
The Jersey Asian Hornet Group recorded 694 nests last year, a significant increase on the 259 found in 2024.
The government has classified Asian hornets as an invasive species because they are aggressive predators of native insects and are a threat to honeybees as one hornet can kill up to 50 bees a day.
