'Terror on our streets' and 'UK antisemitism out of control'

News imageThe headline on the front page of the Guardian reads: "Police declare terrorist attack after two Jewish men stabbed."
The stabbing of two Jewish men in north London being declared a terrorist incident dominates Thursday's papers. The Guardian leads with a picture of the moment the suspect was Tasered and detained by police in Golders Green. The victims, aged 76 and 34, were taken to hospital and are in a stable condition.
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Daily Telegraph reads: "Jew hate 'out of control' in UK."
The Daily Telegraph follows with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's response to the attack, saying the UK has lost control of anti-Semitic hate crime and that UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer should do more to "protect the Jews of England". The PM called the attack "utterly appalling" and said funding to protect the community needed to be increased.
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Daily Mail reads: "Antisemitism is out of control in the UK, warns Israel."
The Daily Mail also highlights the reaction from Israel. It adds that the Golders Green suspect had a history of "serious violence and mental health issues", according to police.
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Times reads: "UK antisemitism 'out of control' after Jews knifed."
The UK's terrorism watchdog has declared antisemitism the "biggest national emergency since Covid" following the attack, the Times reports. The paper features remarks from Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis who said "words of condemnation are no longer sufficient".

"Terror on our streets" says the Daily Mirror, also running a picture of the moment the suspect was tackled by police.
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Daily Star reads: "Terror on Brit streets."
The Daily Star has a similar headline, describing the attack as a "bloody rampage near a London synagogue".
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Daily Express reads: "These attacks are an attack on Britain itself."
"These attacks are an attack on Britain itself" is the Daily Express' headline, quoting Labour MP Sarah Sackman, who represents Finchley and Golders Green where the incident occurred. The paper adds the attack is the latest antisemitic incident following an arson attack in the same area against ambulances run by a Jewish medical charity.
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Sun reads: "How many more?"
"How many more?" asks the Sun's headline as it reports that the Metropolitan Police chief and a Labour minister were heckled by locals "furious" at the rising number of attacks against the Jewish community.
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Independent reads: "Jews targeted and stabbed in Golders Green terror attack."
Sir Keir Starmer has been told he must tackle the "pandemic" of antisemitic attacks in the UK, according to the Independent. Elsewhere, the paper reports on Donald Trump's latest warning in a Truth Social post that featured an AI photo of him holding a gun with the caption: "No more Mr Nice Guy."
News imageThe headline on the front page of the i Paper reads: "Terror attack on UK Jews foiled by police and hero bystanders."
The i Paper has more details on how members of the public helped prevent more casualties, reporting that a window cleaner helped subdue the suspect with police officers who Tasered him.
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Financial Times reads: "Oil price surges after Trump warns he 'does not want' to lift blockade on Iran."
The Financial Times has a picture of forensic officers on the scene at Golders Green. The paper's top story is the surge in oil price after Donald Trump warned he did "not want to" end his blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
News imageThe headline on the front page of the Metro reads: "Bittersweet... but my Theo saved four lives."
Finally, the Metro spotlights the "bittersweet" legacy of an eight-year-old boy whose organ donation saved four other lives. Theo Kempthorne was born with a brain condition and died suddenly in 2024.

"Terror on our streets," is the Daily Mirror's headline, as it describes what it calls a "sickening antisemitic attack" that has prompted the Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis to say his community is "not safe in Britain". The Daily Express quotes the Golders Green MP Sarah Sackman as saying: "These attacks are an attack on Britain itself." The Daily Mail carries a warning that antisemitism in the UK is "out of control," while the Times notes that Britain's terrorism watchdog has declared antisemitism to be "the biggest national emergency since Covid".

The Guardian and the Daily Telegraph picture the moment the suspect was brought down by a taser on their front pages. The Times and The i Paper feature CCTV footage of the stabbing of an elderly man at a bus stop. As it considers the rise in violence against Jews, beside a photo of the suspect holding a knife, the Sun asks "How many more?"

In its editorial, the Telegraph argues that if such attacks were targeting Muslims or another minority group, the country would rightly be demanding protection for those under threat - but when Jewish people are attacked, liberal voices suggest that Israel's actions in the Middle East somehow explain antisemitism in Britain. Writing in the Daily Mail, the Jewish commentator Angela Epstein says what are meant to be "reassuring" words from politicians are never matched by action.

The i Paper says speculation is mounting that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer might try to shake-up his top team, following what could be a damaging day at the ballot box next month - but some senior Labour figures, it says, believe he's in too weak a position to do so. The Daily Express says Sir Keir is secretly building a team to help him fight a leadership battle. A Downing Street source tells the paper: "This is untrue."

It must be tough being King, suggests the Guardian. One day you're lauded by the US president, the next, you're essentially being snubbed by the mayor of New York City. The Daily Mail puts a more positive spin on the state visit to the US, praising the King's gift of the bell from the submarine HMS Trump to its namesake president. It calls this the "ding-dong moment of kingly wit" that "put a smile on everyone's face". The Sun describes the gift as a "ringing success".
