Buck Moon lights up Devon and Cornwall skies

The July full Moon lit up the night skies across Devon and Cornwall on Tuesday night.

It is known as the Buck Moon, which was named by Native Americans after the time of year when male deer, or bucks, grow a new set of antlers. It is expected to peak at 15:36 BST on Wednesday.

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich also refers to this Moon as the Thunder Moon, due to the summer storms that often happen in this month, and it has also been named the Hay Moon after the July hay harvest.

Forecasters said it was likely people hoping to catch a glimpse of the moon on Wednesday night will be able to see it because of the clear skies predicted after dark.

Some Weather Watchers members from Devon and Cornwall caught the moon on camera on Tuesday night.
