Police said a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene

Two people have been arrested after a man was shot dead at a traveller site, police have said.

The victim, who is in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene in Calcutt, near Cricklade, at about 08:15 BST, Wiltshire Police said.

The force said a man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s had been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and assisting an offender. They remain in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Phil Walker, from Wiltshire Police's Major Crime Investigation Team, said a murder investigation was under way and inquiries were ongoing "to establish the circumstances which have led to this incident and locate all the people involved".

Walker said a cordon was in place and the road leading to the site was shut.

"This is an incredibly serious incident, and my thoughts are with the victim's friends and family at this devastating time," he said.

"Those in the area will see an increased policing presence throughout the evening as inquiries continue.

"We are really keen to hear from anybody who has any information or witnessed anything suspicious this morning."
