Man charged after acid attack at train station

A man has been charged in relation to an acid attack at a train station.

Wade Richards, 24, appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a corrosive substance and possession of a bladed article.

The incident happened at Crawley railway station in West Sussex shortly after 23:20 GMT on 7 March.

The victim, in his 30s, was approached and attacked by three men, with one throwing a substance at him. He was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing chemical burn injuries and was later discharged.

The substance thrown at him was tested and found to be corrosive.

He continues to recover from his injuries.

Richards, of Three Bridges Road, Crawley, has been remanded into custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 7 May.
