Firefighters tackle wildfire at vinery site

Firefighters have been tackling a "large" wildfire at a former horticultural site.

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service said three fire appliances tackled the blaze following multiple calls reporting the fire at the Fontaine Vinery site, St Sampson, on Tuesday.

It said the fire had been extinguished but firefighters would remain at the scene to dampen down, and warned there was a risk the fire could reignite because of current wind conditions.

The service said the fire affected a "significant area" and investigations into the cause were under way.

People have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke, and Vale Road has been closed while emergency services to respond to the incident.
