Wirral towns top rental hotspot list

Two towns in Merseyside are among the top 10 rental hotspots in Britain, according to a property website.

Renters in Birkenhead and Wallasey face the strongest competition for homes, Rightmove said.

It said the Wirral towns each recorded an average of 30 enquiries for every available property during July and August.

Colleen Babcock, from Rightmove, said: "The North West features particularly prominently in our findings, accounting for six of the 10 most competitive locations."

Prenton in Wirral was joint fifth in the table, with an average of 27 enquiries.

Chorlton-cum-Hardy in Manchester and Morecambe in Lancashire were joint eighth in the list, with an average of 22 enquiries per property.

Across Britain, there were 11 enquiries on average for each available rental property during July and August, down from 12 during the same period in 2025 and a peak of 28 in 2022, Rightmove said.

The website said July and August were typically the busiest months of the year for the rental market.

Babcock said: "While rental supply has rebalanced compared with previous years, there are still locations where each available home attracts high numbers of enquiries from prospective tenants."

She said the findings were a reminder that competition could still be strong in many areas, despite "an improvement in supply in recent years".
