A dentist will start at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital's dental unit from November.

NHS dental services will return to Ramsey next month, with patients on waiting lists among the first to be offered appointments.

Manx Care said a dentist would begin seeing patients at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital from the week beginning 2 November.

The service will initially be available to people in the north of the island who are on the NHS dental waiting list, as well as unregistered patients requiring emergency treatment.

Manx Care also said Smile Dental was working towards reopening from separate premises in Ramsey later this year instead of moving into the hospital's dental unit as previously planned.

Smile Dental moved out of Ramsey earlier this year during work at the cottage hospital and temporarily relocated to Douglas.

It stopped seeing patients in April, citing safety concerns at its temporary Douglas premises, and plans to move into the hospital's dental unit were later delayed by roof issues.

Manx Care said it will provide urgent and emergency treatment for Smile Dental patients until the practice reopens.

It is also seeking to recruit a second dentist and said the additional appointments, alongside Smile Dental's return, would help improve access for patients waiting for treatment.
