Further arrest after reports of gunshots in town

A man has been arrested as part of an investigation into reports of gunshots fired in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Police said there were reports of gunshots on 2 June in Cort Crescent, Braunstone, on 9 June in Brascote Lane, Newbold Verdon, and shortly after in Station Road, Glenfield.

On Wednesday, the force said it had made a further arrest in relation to the Cort Crescent gunshot case.

A 38-year-old man was arrested and bailed on Tuesday on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life/enable another to do so.

Police said on 21 June, Daniel Bateman, 29, of no fixed address, and Tom Law, 38, of Corfield Rise, Leicester, were both charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

The force said the charges related to the incidents at Brascote Lane and Station Road on 9 June.

The pair appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday, when they were remanded in custody, added the force.

They are due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on 10 August.

Officers said no-one was injured, but on all three occasions damage was caused to the front of the properties, which was "consistent with a firearm having been discharged".

Police confirmed four men, 38, 38, 40 and 50, had previously been arrested in relation to the offence at Cort Crescent on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and been released on bail pending further inquiries.

A 36-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender was released under investigation.

In relation to the incidents at Brascote Lane and Station Road, police said three men, 19, 20 and 21, had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and had been released on bail pending further inquiries.

A 34-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and suspicion of assisting an offender.

She has been released on bail for the firearms arrest and released under investigation for the assisting an offender arrest, the force added.

Officers said they were continuing to appeal for anyone with information to contact the force.
