Arts director leaving Corby role after eight years

A long-serving arts director is set to leave his role to take up the same position at a neighbouring venue.

Joe Flavin has resigned from The Core at Corby Cube, in Northamptonshire, after eight years to become director at The Cresset in Peterborough.

"Working in Corby has been an absolute pleasure, the whole of the UK and Europe seems to have a cultural representation in Corby and as an Irish person moving here, I was welcomed with open arms," he said.

Flavin confirmed he would remain part of the team behind Corby's bid to become the UK's first Town of Culture in 2028.

He added: "It's been a privilege to be part of so many culturally significant moments in the town, from three GROW Outdoor Arts festivals and the first Pride events, to The Core's 15th birthday celebrations and the growth of our professional pantomime."

Flavin said the venue had "always been small but mighty and has accomplished more than the sum of its parts through collaborative effort and passion for the arts".

Jo Gordon, chief executive of the Northamptonshire Arts Management Trust, which oversees The Core, said: "Joe has brought huge energy, imagination and heart to The Core and his relationships in Corby. He has championed brilliant work for children and young people."

David Manning, chairman of trustees at The Core, said: "The Cresset will benefit greatly from his experience, and we wish him every success in his new role."

The Cresset, which opened in 1978, is a community hub that includes an 850-seat theatre, a church, a pub and conference centre. It also has more than 70 flats managed by the YMCA.
