Mother and son who died in park water named

A woman and her seven-year-old son who died after entering a waterway at a west London park have been identified.

Hamdi Ali, 34, and Ibrahim Mohamed, are believed to have got into difficulty in a stretch of the River Brent that runs behind Elthorne Park, Hanwell, on Saturday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Police carried out enquiries and said it believed the incident was not suspicious, but a "tragic accident".

Their family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. A spokesperson for the force said this was an "incredibly difficult time for them and they have requested that their privacy be respected".

'Awful incident'

Hamdi Ali and Ibrahim Mohamed lived locally and Ibrahim attended nearby Castle Bar Primary School - a special facility for children with complex needs such as learning difficulties and autism- Ealing Council said.

Tony Clements, the local authority's chief executive, said: "We are deeply saddened to hear about the tragic death of a mother and her young son at Elthorne Park on Saturday.

"I know people in the local community and the school have been shocked by this awful accident.

"Council staff will provide support to the family and the school as required and our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time."
