Arrested terrorism suspect released on bail

A man from Leicestershire who was arrested on suspicion of a terrorism offence has been released on bail, police have confirmed.

The 27-year-old was arrested on Monday in Wigston on suspicion of expressing support for the proscribed organisation Daesh - also known as Islamic State.

Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), which led the operation, supported by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands and Leicestershire Police, also searched a residential property in the town.

Officers said the investigation was ongoing but released no further details of the inquiry.

At the time of the arrest, local police moved to reassured residents over the increased police presence, while also appealing for any information which might be relevant.
