Former social club site to be redeveloped

A former social club site in Leicestershire is set to be redeveloped after planning permission was approved.

Plans were submitted to Blaby District Council by applicant Motor Fuel Group for a single-storey extension to the existing Morrisons petrol filling station sales building in Station Road in Glenfield.

The application also included plans to flatten the former Glenfield Social Club, however, since the start of the application the building has been demolished and building works have started on site.

Documents note the extension will include a Greggs food-to-go area with parking, electric vehicle charging facilities, four jet wash bays, and two new air/water and vacuum units.

Concerns raised by Glenfield Parish Council at the time of application included issues regarding traffic and parking, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Ward councillor Roy Denney said cars using the Nags Head "regularly park down the side of the access road and has requested that pedestrian protection points should be placed along the roadside of that footway to restrict vehicle parking and ensure pedestrian safety".

In their report, planning officers said Leicestershire County Council, acting as the local highways authority, raised a number of concerns in relation to the original application and the proposed site layout, but added: "This has now been addressed during the consultation process.

"They now have no objection subject to the imposition of conditions."

The application was approved subject to the 16 conditions, including a restriction on hours from 06:00 to 23:00, and the requirement to submit a construction and traffic management plan before development works start.
