Demolition work to start in estate redevelopment

Work to demolish old houses and build more than 200 homes on an estate in Nottinghamshire is set to begin.

Plans to redevelop the Yorke Drive estate in Newark, including a new sports pavilion and pitches, were approved last February.

Newark and Sherwood District Council said preparations for the first phase of work will begin by 31 October.

The work will include the demolition of four homes and drainage works, the council said.

The wider project was designed to make the area a better and safer place to live and improve sports and recreational facilities.

In total, 207 homes will be built, with a mix of privately-owned homes and social housing.

District councillor for housing, Lee Brazier, said: "The next few years will see a lot of positive change on the estate, and I want to reassure residents that we will continue to work closely with you.

"The district council is here to support all residents, and anyone with questions can contact us.

"I'm incredibly proud that we will be starting on site soon, and this is a major achievement for everyone involved.

"Thank you to district council colleagues who have worked hard on this project and I'm excited to see it taking shape."
