Man seriously hurt in suspected city centre assault

A man has been taken to hospital after being found with serious injuries in Birmingham city centre.

A police cordon was put in place after the man was found in Navigation Street just before 06:40 BST on Saturday.

"It's understood the man, aged in his 50s, had been assaulted," said a West Midlands Police spokesman.

Officers are carrying out inquiries, including reviewing CCTV, and said they want to establish the full circumstances and identify who was involved.

The force has urged anyone with any further information to get in touch.
