Care homes planned for two houses on same street

Plans to create two new care homes on the same street will be discussed by a council amid concerns over the impact they could have on current residents.

MSA Properties Ltd wants to convert two large, detached homes on Church Way, in Weston Favell, in Northamptonshire, into separate care homes for young adults who require wheelchair-accessible accommodation and associated support.

More than 100 letters of objection have been submitted across both applications expressing concerns about road safety and the impact on neighbours.

West Northamptonshire Council's (WNC) non-strategic planning committee has been recommended to approve both plans later this week.

The largest property is currently a two-storey detached five-bedroom home with parking space for up to seven cars, but could house up to eight occupants with extra bedrooms being created, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The second home is a detached three-bedroom house which could be converted to provide four ground-floor bedrooms with wheelchair-compliant wet rooms and four on-site parking spaces.

Weston Favell and Abington Vale Conservative councillor Andrew Kilbride has called for the plans to be discussed on the grounds of overdevelopment of the area and the impact on traffic and local infrastructure.

The developer said there would be "ample" parking space at the properties.

WNC has imposed a condition requiring them to submit a management plan with details of mitigation measures to ensure that shift changes do not disturb neighbours more than would be typically associated with a residential home.

The council's planning committee will meet on 6 August to consider the applications.
