Second man, 20, dies after A1(M) overnight crash
GoogleA second man has died after a crash which closed part of the A1(M) in both directions during rush hour.
The collision took place between junction 62 near Durham and junction 63 near Chester-le-Street on Sunday at about 22:50 BST.
A 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Durham Police said a second man, also aged 20, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and died of his injuries on Monday.
A third man was seriously injured and taken to the same hospital, where he remains in a stable condition, the force said.
Police said a black Mercedes A Class struck the central reservation before coming to rest on its roof.
There were long delays reported on diversion routes around Durham while crash investigators worked at the scene.
The force called for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the crash to contact them.
