Four children rescued after being cut off by tide
RNLIFour children and an adult have been rescued after becoming cut off by the tide and "stranded" on sandbanks.
The rescue happened on Wednesday at about 20:30 BST off the coast at Cleveleys in Lancashire, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) said.
The crew launched the lifeboat, where Blackpool Council beach patrol manager and Blackpool RNLI volunteer Rick Williams "leapt into action" to safely rescue them.
"This incident once again highlights the danger of our sandbanks, with incoming tides and currents cutting off the sandbanks," the RNLI said.
"Please be aware of your surroundings, tide times and alert to the dangers," the RNLI added.
Fleetwood coastguards have also urged sea swimmers to use bright tow floats after another incident at the weekend.
Crews investigated reports of an unidentified object in the water, which turned out to be a swimmer who was safe and well.
A spokesperson for Fleetwood coastguards said brightly-coloured tow floats and swim caps made it easier to identify swimmers.
