City swimming pool to undergo £1.4m upgrade

A popular city swimming pool is set to undergo a "major improvement programme" costing £1.4m.

Work will begin in September to revamp the pool at Leisure World Colchester, with changing facilities and the external flumes in line for a full upgrade.

The pool is expected to reopen in early 2027 - but other facilities within Leisure World Colchester will remain open as normal, the city council confirmed.

Liberal Democrat city councillor for the Mile End ward, Martin Goss, said: "This is one of the most significant investments in the Leisure Pool in recent years and demonstrates our commitment to providing attractive leisure facilities for our residents and visitors."

Goss, who is also the portfolio holder for waste, neighbourhoods and leisure, added: "These essential improvements will enhance the overall customer experience and help ensure the Leisure Pool meets the needs of our customers for many years to come."

Improvements will also involve improving air ventilation, a new splash pad and upgraded water features.

Conservative councillor and portfolio holder for resources and assets, William Sunnucks said: "This investment reflects our commitment to maintaining and improving the Council's assets.

"Investing in our assets at the right time helps us maintain high-quality facilities for residents while making the best use of Council resources."
