Quarry cordoned off over suspected WW2 explosive
BBCA large cordon has been put in place after the discovery of a suspected World War Two explosive in a quarry.
A report of a "possible unexploded item" was received by Staffordshire Police, reported to be at the site on Walton Lane, Barton-under-Needwood, on Tuesday morning.
The area was evacuated and a 200m/218yd cordon put in place. Officers were still at the scene on Wednesday while specialists assessed the object.
Anyone who discovered something they believed to be an explosive were warned not to pick it up or tamper with it, to maintain a safe distance and call 999 as soon as possible, a spokesperson added.
