M6 delays after lorry catches fire
National HighwaysA lorry fire has caused delays on a stretch of the M6 in the West Midlands.
National Highways said the incident affected the motorway northbound between junctions 4A and 5 in Birmingham.
National Highways closed three of the lanes on Friday for emergency resurfacing.
At the peak of the disruption, there were 90-minute delays in the area as the carriageway was closed completely, with queues stretching nine miles. That has since reduced, but people heading to Birmingham Airport have been warned to expect delays northbound.
National HighwaysNational Highways said vehicle recovery and clean-up operations were continuing.
Police and firefighters remain at the scene.
West Midlands Fire Service added that firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze, which affected the entirety of the lorry.
They confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries.
