Murder accused smiled after stabbing, court hears
Family handoutTwo teenagers accused of murder were caught on CCTV "smiling and shaking hands" shortly after a 16-year-old was stabbed to death, a court has heard.
Baye Bireme Fall, known as BB, died from a single stab wound after a confrontation near the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough on 12 April.
Emidas Krutkevicius, 18, from Garton End Road, Peterborough, and a 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are on trial at Peterborough Crown Court where they deny murder.
Prosecutor Kate Wilkinson told jurors it appeared there was a "disagreement" between friends of Krutkevicius and Baye and the two were due to meet "to resolve the issue".
Opening the case, Wilkinson laid out social media conversations between Krutkevicius and Baye on the day before the meeting.
The prosecutor said Krutkevicius and the 15-year-old were "armed with knives" in the lead up to the meeting and that Baye arrived at the shopping centre with two others.
Baye was also carrying a weapon, she said, but explained it was never "seen out of its protective sheath" and there was no scientific evidence it had been used to harm anyone.
Witnesses in the shopping centre described the discussion "as hostile".
Shariqua Ahmed/BBCThe prosecutor said Krutkevicius subsequently waved a knife towards Baye in an alleyway.
CCTV footage showed the defendants then running away and Wilkinson said a witness described seeing them "both carrying knives, weapons out".
Baye followed them, she explained, and the defendants "waited for him to catch up" with their knives "ready".
"What is clear is that BB is not seen to take out any sort of knife he had with him," she said.
"If such a weapon had been taken out it would, the crown say, have been visible on the CCTV."
The jurors were shown footage of further activity in a car park, after which Baye collapsed. He later died in hospital.
Wilkinson said the defendants "fled the car park" as soon as Baye had been stabbed and were "caught on CCTV smiling and shaking hands".
She told jurors "whichever of the two inflicted the fatal stab wound they acted jointly".
The trial, which is expected to last five to six weeks, is ongoing.
