Scammer impersonates Christmas market organisers
PA MediaA scammer is contacting traders and purporting to take bookings for a Christmas market, according to a town council.
Prospective stall holders reported being contacted and invited to apply for a pitch at Farnham Christmas Market in Surrey.
But Farnham Town Council, which is the legitimate organiser of the event, said it had not sent the emails.
The sender had used a Gmail email address, rather than an official Farnham Town Council email address, the council said.
The town council advised anybody who received a scam email not to click on any links, reply, or send money, and to check with the town council if unsure about the legitimacy of an email.
Traders who want to attend the market, on 13 December, can apply using the town council's own form.
