Rescued kitten finds new home after violent attacks

A kitten who suffered a series of serious injuries at the hands of her owner is now thriving in a loving new home alongside her best friend, a dog named Flash.

Luna was just four months old when she was rescued from a property in Brighton after a concerned neighbour raised fears about her welfare.

The RSPCA took Luna for urgent veterinary treatment after she was found with a suspected fractured skull.

The charity said she had suffered multiple injuries, including a head tilt caused by trauma and a fractured tail, with veterinary evidence indicating they were consistent with physical abuse.

The RSPCA said Luna's rescue took place in July 2024.

The previous month, the owner told the RSPCA the kitten had fallen from a fridge, leaving her gasping for breath with bloodshot eyes.

However, the man had failed to take her to a scheduled veterinary appointment, the charity added.

Four days later, he reported she had been trodden on, causing weakness in her hind legs.

A vet found spinal soreness and a left eye ulcer which could not be explained by the incident.

Charlotte Baumann, who has worked as an RSPCA officer for 29 years, said: "I have had horrible cases over the years but this is among one of the worst.

"This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable."

The RSPCA said the man was later prosecuted for animal welfare offences.

Luna was placed into the care of the RSPCA Brighton and Sussex Branch.

Jenny Eden, branch manager, said she was "delighted" with Luna's transformation.

"I'm pleased her fosterer chose to adopt her and Luna is now enjoying life with her best friend, Flash the labrador," she added.
