Brutal crypto attack on couple prompts £10k reward

A young couple were violently attacked in their home and forced to transfer a large sum of cryptocurrency by masked thieves who pushed their way in.

The couple, who were expecting their third baby at the time, were assaulted and threatened after returning home to Smith's Wood in Solihull at about 17:20 GMT on Saturday 13 December 2025, police said.

As they opened their front door, three men got out of a parked car and pushed into the house behind them.

The charity Crimestoppers is offering a £10,000 reward for information about what detectives believe was "a planned and targeted attack", with instructions relayed to the thieves by a fourth person on a video call.

West Midlands Police said the male victim suffered "significant injuries" when he was assaulted, and his wife, who was pregnant at the time, was threatened with a knife.

The men left with the funds along with a number of high-value watches, in a car believed to be a black BMW X3.

All suspects are thought to be their twenties, detectives said. While face coverings and hoods have made accurate descriptions difficult, one was described as "a black man with a small diagonal scar beneath his left eyebrow".

Crimestoppers, which is an independent charity, is offering the reward of up to £10,000 for exclusive information leading to their arrest and conviction.

West Midlands regional manager Alan Edwards said: "This was a young family, at home, weeks away from welcoming a new baby.

"What was done to them is hard to take in, and the effects are still being felt every single day."

He appealed to members of the public with information to come forward.

"Someone who was told about it afterwards, someone who noticed a friend or relative suddenly flush with money, or someone who saw a black BMW X3 in the area that Saturday," he said.

He added information could be given to the charity anonymously, and that it did not ask for people's names, or require them to "give a statement or go to court".
