Police search for owner of teddy with human ashes left on train

Police are hoping to reunite a teddy and an urn containing human remains with its owner after it was left on a train in Aberdeen.

The decorative vase, which is cradled in the arms of the brown cuddly toy, is thought to have been handed in to lost property at Aberdeen station after arriving on an LNER service from London Kings Cross.

The small, red urn is wrapped in artificial purple and white flowers and has a golden ribbon tied around its top.

It has been held in storage by ScotRail for about four months, but officers from British Transport Police (BTP) said they had "no further information" about its previous owner.

They asked anyone with information about the urn, or the loved ones it belongs to, to contact them.

BTP officer Gary Herning said: "The urn appears to contain human ashes or remains and will clearly be of enormous sentimental value to someone.

"Unfortunately, we have no further information on where the owner may have boarded or alighted during the journey."
