Murder arrest after woman found dead

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in Darlington.

Durham Police said they were called to an address in Parkgate at 21:15 BST on Wednesday.

A woman, believed to be in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene but formal identification has yet to taken place, the force said.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both men remain in custody, the force added.

A police cordon is at the scene while specialist crime scene investigators carry out examination work.
