The Torvean swing bridge over the Caledonian Canal in Inverness has been repaired after being out of action for about a month.

Highland Council said a specialist team had undertaken a thorough inspection of the bridge systems which involved checking cables, wiring and a software update.

Officers said the necessary parts had been adjusted and replaced, and the bridge was fully functioning.

Critics have complained that the Torvean bridge, which opened in 2021 at a cost of £10m, is less reliable than the neighbouring Tomnahurich swing bridge that dates back to the 1930s.
