Police say fire at derelict Glasgow nightclub was started deliberately
BBCPolice believe a blaze in a derelict nightclub in Glasgow city centre which fire crews spent the night tackling was started deliberately.
The alarm was raised at the former Jumpin' Jaks on Sauchiehall Street about 01:36.
Police Scotland said Dalhousie Street was closed between Renfrew Street and Sauchiehall Street before reopening at about18:00.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it mobilised nine appliances, one height appliance and three specialist resources to the scene.
An SFRS spokesperson said: "There are no reported casualties at this time and crews remain in attendance."
On Tuesday morning there were no visible signs of fire or smoke and two fire engines remained at the scene.
There have been a number of major fires in the area in recent years.
The Charles Rennie Mackintosh-designed Glasgow School of Art was devastated by fires in 2014 and 2018.
The second of those also wiped out the O2 ABC - a building which had existed in various guises since 1875 - which is in the same block as Jumpin' Jaks.
Another listed building on Sauchiehall Street which housed popular nightclub Victoria's was destroyed in 2018, following a fire blamed on an electrical fault.
And in 2004 the Shack night club - based in another building dating back to the 19th Century - burned to the ground.
