Jail for man who drove while disqualified
West Mercia PoliceA man has been jailed for four-and-a-half months, a day after being arrested.
Ben Upton, 27, from Highley in Shropshire, was spotted on Tuesday 11 August by West Mercia Police officers. He was driving a Vauxhall Zafira in Much Wenlock while disqualified.
Upton was stopped after a brief foot-chase and taken before magistrates on Wednesday, where he admitted driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without third-party insurance.
PC Emma Strangwood said: "Thanks to information gathered by our local policing teams and the swift actions of officers, Upton was brought before the courts and held accountable for his actions."
The force said intelligence gathered by officers suggested he was regularly driving while disqualified.
As well as the 18-week sentence, he was further disqualified from driving for five years.
Strangwood said: "Driving while disqualified is a serious offence and shows a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of other road users."
