A visitor has been rescued from the central tower at York Minster following a medical incident.

Several ambulances and fire engines were parked at Minster Yard, with an air ambulance also in the area.

After receiving medical attention, the fire service said the patient was extricated from the Minster using an aerial ladder platform.

A spokesperson for York Minster confirmed the visitor had been safely brought to the ground and taken to Leeds General Infirmary in a stable condition.

"Once again, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the emergency services for their swift and professional response, and to our operations team for their support, expertise, and dedication throughout the incident," they added.

Visitors can still access the Minster as usual.
