The son of a coach firm founder who spent 50 years driving has paid tribute to his "cheeky" father.

Terence Hall set up Terry's Coaches in Coventry in 1975, at first having just one vehicle, and continued to drive coaches until December 2025.

He died on 15 April, after a short illness, at the age of 79, and his funeral will be held on Wednesday morning.

His son, Lee Hall, said: "If he could have carried on, he would have driven to the last day of his life."

Lee said Terry always made time for his family, but the business was his life.

The 42-year-old said: "He'd get a phone call at midnight if someone had a problem and he'd rush out and help them out.

"But we always had time when we were younger to go on holiday for a couple of weeks, every year, to go skiing. He had time for the family, but the business was his main enjoyment in life."

Terry Hall continued to drive coaches until just a few months before his death

Terry continued to drive buses until four months before his death and his family said he kept his good sense of humour.

Lee said: "Putting it bluntly, he was cheeky. You could always tell when he was lying, because he'd have a stupid grin on his face and a little twinkle in his eye.

"He'd have a silly smirk when you caught him out."

His family plan to carry on running the coach company in his name, from their base in Coventry and with the same fleet of coaches "as per his wishes" and "upholding the values and standards he insisted upon".
