Airport arrest after teen stabbed in city centre
BBCA teenager has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed in Manchester city centre, police have said.
The 19-year-old was found on Church Street in the Northern Quarter after Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called at about 12:50 BST.
Officers had received reports of an "ongoing incident" in the area, said a GMP spokesperson.
The force later confirmed that within three hours of the stabbing, a man in his early 20s had been arrested at Manchester Airport on suspicion of wounding with intent.
The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Det Ch Insp Chris Woodburn said: "Our officers have worked at an incredible pace to piece together what had happened, which has led to us arresting a suspect at the airport.
"In any incident of this nature, it is understandable for those who live and work in the area - including members of the public who have come to visit Manchester - to feel apprehensive.
"I would like to reassure everyone that there will be an increased police presence in the area as we head into the evening."
