Roadworks to affect city roundabout for 10 months

More than 10 months of roadworks are set to start at a busy city centre roundabout.

Work at the Queensgate roundabout in Peterborough is scheduled to begin on 6 July, with a current planned end date of 14 May 2027.

It is linked to the £65m Station Quarter project, which aims to improve the gateway between the railway station and the city centre.

Road and footpath closures and diversion routes will be in place on several surrounding roads while the works take place.

The Queensgate roundabout is one of the busiest interchanges in the city, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

It provides access to car parks for both the railway station and the Queensgate Shopping Centre and is an exit point for Peterborough's bus station.

The upcoming roadworks will include the removal of two underpasses which will be replaced with a pedestrian crossing into Cowgate, a main shopping area in the city centre.

The Station Quarter project is being delivered by the city council in partnership with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, Network Rail, the government-owned company Platform4, and train operator LNER.

The scheme also includes a new western entrance to the railway station and a landscaped pedestrian and cycle route leading towards Peterborough Cathedral.
