New bag check-in service for Heathrow passengers

Passengers flying from Jersey to London can now check their luggage in the day before their journey.

Jersey Airport said British Airways passengers for Heathrow flights which were due to leave before 12:00 BST could drop their suitcases for the hold at the airport the day before.

It said the "twilight bag drop", which started on Thursday, would operate daily from 16:30 to 20:00 and would give passengers "more time to relax and focus on the start of their trip."

While the service is currently open only to British Airways passengers bound for Heathrow, the airport said there were plans to extend it to other destinations.

Jamie Loudon, head of terminal and transformation at Jersey Airport, said the scheme was about making travel easier.

He said: "By giving passengers the option to check-in and drop off their hold luggage the evening before travel, it provides greater flexibility and removes part of the airport journey from the day of departure.

He said the service would be "particularly useful for families, passengers travelling with large bags, sports equipment or those who just need some additional time".

Jersey Airport said passengers could use complimentary 30-minute parking in the long stay car park when dropping off their hold luggage the evening before departure.

It added using the new bag drop service did not change the recommended airport arrival times on the day of travel..
