Fire crews tackle West Yorkshire moorland blaze
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue ServiceFire crews have been tackling a blaze on Marsden Moor in West Yorkshire.
The fire started at about 14:30 BST on Sunday on New Hey Road in Scammonden, and at its height 10 crews, including from the Greater Manchester area, were involved in efforts to extinguish it, according to West Yorkshire Fire Service.
People living in the surrounding areas, particularly Marsden, were urged to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed due to a large plume of smoke.
Firefighters remained at the scene on Monday to carry out a "sweep of the perimeter area" and to extinguish any remaining hotspots, a fire service spokesperson said.
People should continue to avoid the area, specifically the Pennine Way near Hey Reservoir and Hay Gutter March, they added.
